Nominated District Director 2020-2021 Candidate, Jocelyne Vezina, DTMDistrict Director, Jocelyne Vézina, DTM
Nominated Candidate

When I am elected as your District Director, my vision for our district is to be the leader in education, member retention and growth.

How will we achieve that?

            • By keeping our focus on you, the members, in all our decisions.
            • By constantly asking ourselves: “Will this enhance our members’ experience?”
            • By providing the tools you need to meet your personal goals.

    How will we measure that?

            • By being President Distinguished.
            • By the number of members who renew.
            • By the number of new clubs we build.

My fellow members. It will be a challenge to meet those goals as we pick-up the pieces after Covid-19. However, we have demonstrated resilience, imagination and creativity in the past few months to keep our clubs going and meet our goals. Let us use those skills to create the best environment possible for you to learn and grow.

When I am elected, my commitment to you will be to support your personal growth by fulfilling our district’s mission and upholding our core values.

Together, we will succeed.

Yours in service,

Program Quality Director 2020-2021 Candidate, Cynthia Aires, DTMNominated Program Quality Director, Cynthia Ayres, DTM
Nominated Candidate

Twelve years ago I joined Toastmasters to build my confidence to handle job interviews. It has been an amazing journey that has offered much more.  Members greeted me with open arms encouraging, nudging and motivating me.  I have done Club, Area, Division, District, COT, Contest and Mentoring roles. These roles included Finance Manager for two terms and many Conference Committee roles including Conference Chair.  My home club has been a President's Distinguished club all of these years and my team and I led Division T to be President's Distinguished.

These experiences have taught me the importance of facilitating communication between the members and the district leaders.  I assure you I will work hard on your behalf, listen to your ideas and do everything in my power to give you the best experience possible as a member of Toastmasters. You will be informed about the challenges we face and together we will look for solutions.  Our skills, time and personalities will be combined to form a strong chain that will make us successful in achieving our goals.

These goals would include our District mission of building new clubs and supporting all clubs in achieving excellence and will embrace the importance of member retention.

You can benefit from my passion, faith and experience in Toastmasters.  You can be assured that I will follow the Toastmaster core values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.  You will also benefit from my belief in the value of FUN.
Vote for Cynthia Ayres!

Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence are the values we all express through our Educational Program; by our interaction with other Toastmasters, by providing exceptional training and encouraging participation.

Throughout my District Leadership Journey, I have witnessed and participated in previous transitions at the District level. I am in an excellent position to navigate the necessary changes while keeping stability and the quality of our experience that our members enjoy.

These changes will involve extensive collaboration, ability to create and lead teams, procedural changes, administrative details and critical financial management to be successful, skills that I practiced daily in my professional career.  Being retired, I can commit the time and have the talents that it will take to ensure continued success in our District(s) for the future.

Our district is at a critical transition point with challenges of online meetings, reformation and the recent launch of Pathways, our new educational program.  I believe helping the clubs achieve excellence is a major challenge and vital to our members’ educational goals. Working diligently with the team, the goal will be to help clubs embrace Pathways, new online technologies by continuing to provide as many tools as possible and to encourage long-standing members to embrace the change so they may continue to offer valuable mentorship to new members.

I want to give back.  My mantra has always been ‘How May I Serve YOU!’

Vote for me as Program Quality Director (PQD) and together we will get a R.I.S.E. out of D86.

Be Safe!
Myrna Barthe, DTM

Dear District Council Members,

Please allow me to thank you for your service to the members, your clubs and the district, especially in the face of the challenges that have risen over the last few months.  Please accept my wishes for the continued good health- physically, mentally and emotionally - of you and your families going forward.

We have known for some time that the 2020-2021 year would be one of great change for District 86 and its members. Pathways, Reformation and Realignment – for months the mention of any of these 3 words would spark debate and discussion at all levels of the district.  Then Covid-19 ignited a flurry of changes throughout the world.  When we reach the other side of this crisis, we will face a new normal and that can be a frightening thought.  I encourage you to remember this simple idea – Change equals Opportunity for you cannot have an opportunity unless you change something and changing something gives you the opportunity to improve it.

The unprecedented changes we are facing today mean that opportunities we have never dreamt of will be available tomorrow.  If we recognize the changes happening around us and if we prepare ourselves now for those changes, the opportunities will be both apparent and obtainable.  This is true in every aspect of our lives as well as Toastmasters.  I am asking you to vote for me, Clifford R Graham, DTM for Program Quality Director on April 25, 2020 so that I can support you, your club and District 86 as you seize these opportunities.

Clifford R Graham, DTM

I joined Toastmasters International in 2012 and very appreciative of its benefits and values. I am fascinated with the positive environment and camaraderie. I believe in service and giving back to Toastmasters.

I served as President, VP Education and VP Public Relations at club level. I broadened my club experience and was a member of six clubs at one point. I welcomed the opportunity to serve in other capacities as Division L Director Assistant, Division L Club Growth Chair, Area L55 Director and Division L Director.

Knowledge is power, I organized several Club Officer trainings including online virtual training for Club Officers and Members. As Pathways Ambassador, supported our members embracing the Pathways Learning Experience Program online.

I bring insights as Chair Activator and Chair Volunteer on District 86 Spring Conference Committee in the past three years and Helping Hands volunteer at Toastmasters International Convention in Chicago 2018 and Denver 2019.

At the onset of COVID-19, I encouraged and supported clubs with online meetings to stay safe, connected, stay strong and achieve their goals. We demonstrate resilience staying safe, having fun and learning online. I also support prospective clubs online.

I received District 86 Club Coach of the Year 2018 award, nominated in 2019 for District 86 Toastmaster of the Year, and completed three Paths in Pathways en route to a second DTM.

I am a passionate Toastmaster, who believes in Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence. I ask you to vote Deridor Collier, District 86 nominated candidate for Club Growth Director.

My Toastmasters journey since 2000 has taught me that leadership is about caring and delivering on the fundamental needs of our members.  We are experiencing many changes as we transition from the legacy clubs to the online educational experience and one thing is certain, Toastmasters will endure the test of time.

In sharing my commitment to Toastmasters my focus will be on your needs and goals by:

  1. Supporting and strengthening our clubs through member retention, increasing current club membership and starting new clubs;
  2. Enhancing awareness by publicizing, promoting and getting the word out; and
  3. Staying agile at the forefront of technology to deliver a superlative communication & leadership education program.

My commitment is to serve you by listening to you and employing the fundamental skills taught to me in Toastmasters over the last 20 years, combined with my skills as a Project Manager.  Together, we will be a strong and vibrant Toastmasters District in service to our members.

"Club success, Area success, Division success and District success cannot happen without members feeling empowered by wanting to attend meetings regularly, speaking, participating, learning, leading, mentoring and having fun. None of this is achievable without member success. When members receive feedback, feel their confidence strengthen and then share their knowledge and experience with others, they grow. My objective is to give members the support they need today to build the leaders of tomorrow.

A Toastmaster since 2011, having served as VP of Education, Club President, Area Director, Club Coach, conducted numerous club officer training sessions and mentor, I bring knowledge and experience to ensure members are getting the most out of their Toastmasters journey."

The only thing that matters is the member.

By the numbers:

            • 17 years, Distinguished Toastmaster, over 1500 club meetings, 1468 speeches.

After the mentoring, the coaching, the wordsmithing, the certificates, the ribbons and the trophies.

You discover there is only truly one thing in Toastmasters that matters…

In Leadership, if you focus on your members and addressing the MEMBERS needs and goals, you create a SOLID foundation upon which to build an organization committed to the teaching of Communication and Leadership skills.

To paraphrase John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States, I hope to inspire you to learn more, to do more, and to become more. Just as I have been inspired to do so by YOU (THE MEMBERS).
