The District 86 Communication & Leadership Award is a prestigious award that may be given annually to a non-Toastmaster who has made outstanding contributions in the areas of communication and leadership across District 86.

The Purpose of the Award
The purpose of the award is to honour a non-Toastmaster who has made substantial contributions in the areas of communication and leadership.

The District 86 Communication & Leadership Award, if made for the year, is given at the Spring Conference, during dinner on Friday, at which time the recipient gives an appropriate address.
The award is given in the form of a plaque, purchased by District 86 from Toastmasters International, and appropriately engraved with the winner’s name, year of the award, name of award, and other pertinent information. 

Award Recipient Criteria
Following are the criteria used for award recipient selection:

  • Must be a resident of the geographical area covered by District 86 (i.e., the heartland of Ontario from Sarnia and the Niagara peninsula to Mississauga and Markham to the Bruce peninsula to Temiskaming Shores and Timmins to Sudbury and Sault St. Marie and all communities in between.)
  • Must be a non-Toastmaster, can be a former Toastmaster
  • Should have distinguished himself/herself as a leader or spokesperson for a worthy cause or purpose, especially as it exemplified their communication and leadership skills
  • Shall have made a significant contribution to the communities within the District. The impact of this contribution must not be limited to one organization, but must be community/district wide
  • Should support Toastmasters organization
  • This award may not be presented to a recipient a second time.
  • Must be able to personally accept the award and give an acceptance address at the District 86 Conference
  • Must be a skilled communicator/speaker
  • A person who has become a public official, a business leader, an academic leader, or who is successful in other fields of endeavour would be an excellent nominee

  • February 15, 2020
  • Award Announcement Date March 1, 2020
  • Spring Conference Dates: April 24, 25, 26, 2020
